Saturday 29 March - Combs Moss & Castle Naze
π³ Can you believe these are real place names? That's the Peak District for you! Our next walk is a linear route taking us from Chapel En Le Frith (another classic) to Buxton over Combs Moss. We'll also walk up to Castle Naze, which is the site of an iron-age, prehistoric hillfort at the northwest edge of Combsπ³
πΆ Please note - this is a no doggo walk. Combs Moss is a privately owned grouse moor, and as a condition for declaring it Access Land, dogs are not allowed at any time.
π Meet at Chapel En Le Frith Station at 10:20/10:30am (the 9.20 train if coming from MCR)
πThe walk ends at Buxton - this is a linear walk! The two stations are on the same line, so you can just buy a return to Buxton. There is some parking at Chapel station if you prefer to drive and get the train back to your car.
π 5.8 miles - 300m ascent. A bit of a steady incline at the start and then also when we go up to the fort.
π Paths are muddy and sometimes eroded, with some wet fields to cross so wear supportive footwear you don't mind getting muddy. There are also stiles to clamber.
π You'll need a waterproof coat and plenty of layers. Ideally waterproof trousers as well.
π FYI there are no public toilets until the end of the walk
π We'll stop for a short lunch break if weather allows. If it is we'll have shorter, more regular snack breaks. Bring plenty of food and water please!
π»There's the option to go for a drink in Buxton after the walk. Trains back are approx every half hour.
This walk will be led by the absolute delightful AJ - pic below to look out for them π
